The best way to keep your property secure is to fit a HIGH SECURITY DOOR LOCK. There are many different types of locks and entry systems available on the market but it is imperative to ensure your door is fitted with a high security door lock, especially when moving into a new property. It is a good idea to keep an up-to-date list of anyone who has a key to your house, but doesn't live there. Have your locks checked to make sure you don't have a basic cylinder or a wrong size euro cylinder - please see examples in the photos on the left.
Before leaving your house, shut all windows and double lock all doors, even if it's only for a few minutes.
Make your home look occupied: use timer lights when the nights get longer and cancel deliveries if you are going away.
How to protect your valuables
Keep your valuables away from windows, especially if they can be seen from the side walk or street. Close your blinds at night. Store keys away from the letterbox. Lock your doors when you leave the house and before you go to bed, and if you have a garage that connects to the main house, make sure that its' overhead door is also secure.
Consider buying a safe deposit box or using another safe storage solution.
How to secure your outbuildings
Keep gates and sheds locked and don't leave tools lying around as they can be used to break in.
Plants you have around your house and their placement can create an effective barrier. Consider planting spiky plants near the basement and ground floor windows.
Outdoor lighting is one of the most important aspects of home security. If your home is well lit and you live in a neighborhood where others can see your property, any unwanted visitors will be deterred from breaking into your home.
